White sidelined by knee injury

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- New Jersey Devils defenseman Colin White will be out seven to 14 days after suffering sprained right knee in Wednesday night's 5-3 loss to Ottawa.

White went down with just over 13 minutes left in the second period. He tried to check Mike Fisher in the neutral zone, but turned and fell awkwardly, bending back his lower right leg in a gruesome position.

As play continued momentarily, White tried to crawl to the bench on his hands and knees. Fortunately, tests on Thursday did not reveal any ligament damage.

White, 25, has five goals and seven assists in 59 games, and his plus-17 rating is second on the team. His loss would be the third in as many weeks for a team that was relatively injury-free over the first four months of the season.

Versatile winger Sergei Brylin has missed seven games with a fractured wrist, and right wing Turner Stevenson went down on Feb. 12 with a knee injury. Also, defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky has missed 16 games with concussion-like symptoms, and right wing Brian Gionta aggravated an ankle injury Saturday.
