HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Tony Robertson scored a career-high 24 points Wednesday night as 24th-ranked Connecticut pulled away for a 87-70 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers.
A 6-2 senior guard, Robertson scored 15 of his points after halftime, helping the Huskies methodically take control of the contest. Robertson's previous high had been 22 points against Providence, set last season.
Robertson made all 13 of his free throws, where the Huskies went 25 of 26.
Ben Gordon -- Robertson's backcourt mate -- added 20 points for the Huskies (16-6, 7-4 East), who completed a 9-0 campaign at Hartford while pulling within a half game of first-place Villanova in the East division.
Herve Lamizana netted 20 points to lead Rutgers (11-12, 3-8 West), which fell into a sixth-place tie with Georgetown in the West division. The Scarlet Knights must finish in the top six to qualify for the Big East tournament.
