DENVER, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Jose Jimenez, the Colorado Rockies' all-time saves leader, avoid arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed for Jimenez, who had sought $3.9 million in arbitration while the club offered $3.2 million. He made $1.9 million last season.
Jimenez set a franchise record with 41 saves in 2002 and has 82 in his Rockies' tenure. Acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals after the 1999 season, Jimenez has a 3.96 career ERA at Coors Field, which ranks third among active pitchers.
Jimenez, who was the lone Rockie still eligible for arbitration, owns a 21-27 career record with a 4.51 ERA. All of his saves have been with Colorado.
The Rockies on Thursday also claimed righthander Elio Serrano off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. He was 1-3 with five saves and a 2.92 ERA last season at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
