HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The New York Jets have promoted Jimmy Raye to assistant head coach and senior offensive assistant, General Manager Terry Bradway announced Thursday.
Raye, 56, originally joined the Jets' coaching staff last February as a senior offensive assistant, after spending the 2001 season as the offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins. Prior to joining the Redskins, Raye worked for the Kansas City Chiefs (1992-2000) in a variety of roles, beginning as an offensive assistant-tight ends coach, running backs coach and offensive coordinator.
While with the Chiefs, Raye worked closely with Bradway, Jets coach Herman Edwards and Jets offensive coordinator Paul Hackett.
Raye has served as an offensive coordinator on six separate occasions in the NFL, with the Los Angeles-St. Louis Rams (1983-84, 1991), Tampa Bay (1985-86), New England (1990), Kansas City (1998-2000) and Washington.
