Simon Gagne out three weeks

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Flyers center Simon Gagne will be sidelined at least three weeks after re-injuring his groin, team officials said Wednesday.

Gagne returned Tuesday after missing three games. But he aggravated the injury late in the third period of a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

"Yesterday in the game, he pulled his groin," team physician Dr. Peter DeLuca said. "This time, he said he felt a pop, as opposed to last time, when he said he felt it stretch out."

An MRI showed a partial tear of the tendon and confirmed this injury is more severe than the initial problem.

"It's more serious than his last one and it's probably going to take a bit longer this time to come back from," DeLuca said.

The 22-year-old Gagne, a former All-Star, struggled to fit in the system of new coach Ken Hitchcock and has just seven goals and 17 assists in 42 games.

Also without left wing John LeClair (shoulder) and Justin Williams (knee), the Flyers on Wednesday acquired speedy winger Todd Warriner from the Vancouver Canucks for future considerations.
