PHOENIX, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Daniel Briere scored twice and Ramzi Abid and Mike Johnson registered two assists apiece as the Phoenix Coyotes snapped a six-game winless streak Monday night with a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
A 32-goal scorer last season, Briere had just two in his previous 22 games. But playing with Abid and Johnson for the first time, he gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead 87 seconds into the contest and made it 3-1 just 65 seconds into the third period.
Rookie Jeff Taffe added his second goal of the season as the Coyotes enjoyed a three-goal outburst after scoring just five times during an 0-4-1-1 slide, which included three shutouts.
Zac Bierk made 26 saves for his first win as a Coyote.
Owen Nolan ended an eight-game goal-scoring drought for the Sharks, who have just one win in their last nine contests (1-5-2-1).
