Lions sign Mikhael Ricks

ALLEN PARK, Mich., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions retained one of their top players Friday, signing tight end Mikhael Ricks to a three-year contract.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ricks was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl after catching 27 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns last season. He led all NFL tight ends in yards per reception at 12.6.

Detroit did not place a player on the Pro Bowl roster.

Ricks, who has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1998 draft. In his career, Ricks has averaged 12.8 yards per catch, hauling in 118 balls for 1,505 yards.
