Dredge leads Dunhill Championship

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Bradley Dredge shot a 4-under-par 68 on Friday to take the lead at the 36-hole mark of the Dunhill Championship.

Dredge, seeking his first European Tour title after finishing second twice in 2002, turned in an 11-under 133 for two rounds and held a one-shot lead over Mark Roe and Richard Bland. Dredge

"I am definitely ready to win," said Dredge, who was 18th on the Order of Merit last year. "I've had enough near misses now so I will try to go out this weekend and not finish second. I've only been in the final group once before. I think I've learned from that experience."

Roe, who turns 40 on Feb. 20, enjoyed a bogey-free round. He has not won since capturing the Peugeot Open de France in 1994 and spent a good portion of the time since sidelined after hurting his hand trying to catch his pet dog.

"Just to survive out here is great," said Roe, who did not make the cut at last week's South African Open. "Every week, every month seems a bonus, which is lovely. I said I would retire at 40 and that would be enough of traveling and playing, but I still feel competitive and you can't pack it in when you are competitive."

Trevor Immelman, who won the South African Open, fired a 67 Friday and moved into a tie for sixth, three strokes back. England's Lee Westwood carded a 67 and moved into a tie for 13th at 6-under 138.
