Atlanta 3, Boston 1

ATLANTA, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Defenseman Frantisek Kaberle and Ilya Kovalchuk scored power-play goals and Vyacheslav Kozlov added a goal and an assist Friday night as the Atlanta Thrashers recorded their third consecutive win and second under coach Bob Hartley with a 3-1 triumph over the Boston Bruins.

With just one victory in their last eight overall contests, the Bruins seemed rejuvinated by the return of Joe Thornton, who missed five games with an infected elbow.

Boston grabbed an early lead on Brian Rolston's power-play tally 3:11 into the game and goaltender Andrew Raycroft turned aside all nine shots he faced in the opening period.

But after Glen Murray missed a breakaway attempt, the Thrashers took control. Kaberle netted his first goal since Dec. 8 midway through the second to knot the game before Kovalchuk tallied less than five minutes later to stake Atlanta to a 2-1 lead.

Kozlov created some breathing room midway through the third with his 10th goal of the season for the Thrashers, who were victorious for the second straight time since the hiring of Hartley on Tuesday and improved to 4-1-1 in their last six.
