PHOENIX, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Martin Rucinsky and defensemen Al MacInnis and Alex Khavanov scored shorthanded goals in the third period Tuesday night as the St. Louis Blues completed a season-high five-game road trip with a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Rucinsky's third shorthanded goal of the season and 12th overall at 4:48 of the third period snapped a 1-1 tie.

St. Louis held on, despite being outshot 23-13 over the final 40 minutes, and padded the win with a pair of shorthanded empty-net goals in the final minute.

The Blues have scored seven shorthanded goals after tallying two or more for the second time in 10 days. Prior to getting two in a 5-1 win over Tampa Bay, the Blues hadn't scored two shorthanded goals since Feb. 15, 2000 vs. Atlanta.

Tyson Nash scored the other goal for St. Louis at 7:24 of the first period and former Blues first-round pick Jeff Taffe scored his first NHL goal midway through the second for Phoenix.
