John Mabry signs with Mariners

SEATTLE, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Journeyman John Mabry returned to the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with a club option for 2004.

Financial terms were not released, but the free agent made $500,000 last year.

Mabry spent the 1999 season and part of 2000 with Seattle and has been with four different teams in the last two years. Last season, he batted .286 with three RBI in 21 games with the Philadelphia Phillies before being dealt to the Oakland Athletics. With Oakland, he batted .275 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 89 games.

The 32-year-old Mabry has a .271 batting with 66 homers and 328 RBI in 924 career games. He played third base at times in his first stint with Seattle, but as been used at first base and outfield the last two years.
