LAS VEGAS, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Former California and Arizona State football coach Bruce Snyder is now an assistant at Nevada-Las Vegas.

UNLV coach John Robinson on Monday hired Snyder, the 1996 National Coach of the Year while at Arizona State, as an offensive assistant.

Snyder spent the last two seasons as a broadcaster and called all 12 UNLV games in 2002. He and Robinson worked on the same staff at Oregon and Southern California and the NFL's Los Angeles Rams.

"I have known Bruce Snyder for a majority of my life and I have great admiration for his coaching abilities," Robinson said. "He has had a highly successful career as a head coach and I think he will bring an organized style to our offense that is extremely efficient."

Snyder coached at California from 1987-91 before being hired at Arizona State, where he coached from 1992-2000. In 1996, the Sun Devils went 11-1 and reached the Rose Bowl.

Snyder also coached at Utah State and owns a career record of 126-106-5.
