Butler guard sets free throw record

CHICAGO, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Butler University senior guard Darnell Archey set an NCAA record with 76 consecutive free throws by making three of three at the line in Saturday's 68-65 victory at Illinois-Chicago.

Archey has not missed a foul shot since February 2001, his sophomore season. He broke the record of Villanova guard Gary Buchanan, who made 73 straight.

The Bulldogs won their Horizon League opener and improved to 11-1.
