DENVER, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Joe Sakic faced the wrong goaltender in his return from injury Thursday night as Jani Hurme made 27 saves to lead the Florida Panthers to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Hurme robbed Sakic twice in the third period, ruining the Colorado captain's return to the lineup. The former Hart Trophy winner had missed nine games with a sprained ankle.
Roberto Luongo's backup, Hurme also took a goal away from Peter Forsberg in the third period en route to his second win in his last 10 starts (2-3-5). He started for just the third time in Florida's last 15 games.
Viktor Kozlov scored twice for the Panthers, who built a 3-0 lead after 15:06 and posted their second win in as many days. They have won two in a row only three times this season.
Forsberg scored 6:54 into the third period for the Avalanche, who had won two straight games by a combined score of 13-4. They fell to 5-2
1 under coach Tony Granato.
With Patrick Roy battling the flu, David Aebischer made only 13 saves for Colorado.
