CINCINNATI, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- David West sank a layup with 4.1 seconds left Tuesday night as No. 19 Xavier began a challenging week with a 75-73 victory over 15th-ranked Creighton.
The winning shot gave West 28 points and Xavier its fourth straight victory since losing to Mississippi State on Dec. 14 in New York.
Keith Jackson added a career-high 17 points off the bench and Romain Sato had 10 for the Musketeers, who improved to 33-2 all-time at the three-year-old Cintas Center. They travel to No. 3 Alabama on Saturday to meet a team coming off its first loss of the season.
Creighton erased a 10-point deficit in the second half but could not get the win in its first game involving two ranked teams since 1975. Kyle Korver scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Bluejays (10-1).
