Calgary 1, Montreal 1 (OT)

CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Richard Zednik scored in the second period but was stopped by Roman Turek on a breakaway in overtime Tuesday night as Jose Theodore and the Montreal Canadiens settled for a 1-1 tie with the Calgary Flames.

Theodore won a tiebreaker with Jerome Iginla last June to capture the Hart Trophy as NHL most valuable player. Iginla had a chance to gain a measure of revenge after splitting two defenders 4 1/2 minutes into the third period, but Theodore made a stick save to deny his partial breakaway.

Theodore again came up big in the final minute of regulation when he got his blocker on a deflection and gobbled up Martin Gelinas' blast from the left faceoff circle.

It was Turek's turn in overtime as he used his glove to deny Zednik, who tried to pick the top left corner of the net after racing in alone with 3:45 remaining.

Two nights earlier, Turek stopped Petr Sykora on a penalty shot in a 4-2 win over Anaheim.

The Flames could not produce consecutive victories for the first time since Nov. 4-5, despite Chris Clark's first goal in 10 games.
