DENVER, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Peter Forsberg
recorded his first hat trick in four years Sunday, scoring twice on the power play as the Colorado Avalanche rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
After Ziggy Palffy staked Los Angeles to a 1-0 lead 4:17 into the game, Forsberg got Colorado going with 25 seconds left in the opening period. He added goals four minutes apart in the third as Colorado improved to 4-2 under Coach Tony Granato.
Forsberg notched his fifth career hat trick but first since March 3, 1999 against Florida. Linemate Milan Hejduk added three assists and extended his points streak to 11 games. He has six goals and nine assists over that span.
Former King Steven Reinprecht set up goals by Radim Vrbata and Dean McAmmond in the second period and Alex Tanguay capped the scoring with 4:46 left in the contest.
Colorado goaltender Patrick Roy stopped 28 shots to pick up his 11th victory of the season.
