Chicago 3, Vancouver 2

CHICAGO, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Kyle Calder scored a power-play goal as time expired Tuesday night to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the shorthanded Vancouver Canucks.

With defenseman Ed Jovanovski in the penalty box for roughing with 19 seconds left, Theo Fleury had the puck in the left corner. He threw it to the left point, where Alexei Zhamnov lifted a soft wrist shot toward the goal.

Vancouver goaltender Dan Cloutier made the save but left a rebound, allowing Calder to take two hacks from the edge of the crease to score his fifth goal.

The goal withstood a video review.

Mark Bell and Sergei Berezin scored second-period goals and Jocelyn Thibault made 28 saves for Chicago, which improved to 4-1-1 in its last six games.

Matt Cooke tallied in the first period and Todd Bertuzzi knotted the game with a power-play marker at 14:09 of the third, but the Canucks failed to extend their unbeaten streak to four games.

Vancouver, which was playing without Mattias Ohlund, Trevor Linden and Henrik Sedin, endured only its third road loss of the season (11-3-2-0).
