Ottawa 5, Boston 2

BOSTON, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Marian Hossa tied for the NHL lead with his 19th goal Thursday night, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 5-2 victory over the Boston Bruins.

In a battle between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, the Senators scored five consecutive goals over the first two periods and cruised to their 11th win in 15 games (11-1-3).

Hossa gave Ottawa a 5-1 lead with 24 seconds left in the second period, matching Minnesota's Marian Gaborik for the league lead in goals.

Shaun Van Allen, Chris Neil, Todd White and rookie Anton Volchenkov also scored for Ottawa, which moved within six points of Boston for first overall in the East.

Joe Thornton scored his 16th goal for the Bruins, who have lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
