STILLWATER, Okla., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Josh Fields threw three of his four touchdown passes to Rashaun Woods as Oklahoma State built a 22-point halftime lead Saturday and went on to its second shocking victory over Oklahoma in as many years, 38-28.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma (10-2, 6-2) had already clinched the Big 12 Conference South Division title and will play Colorado for the league crown next Saturday in Houston.

But the Sooners were third in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings and had been the frontrunner to gain a berth in the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State should top-ranked Miami lose next week to Virginia Tech.

Those hopes evaporated Saturday and the Cowboys (7-5, 4-4) again were the culprits. The Sooners were in the national title chase last season before Fields threw a game-winning touchdown pass to Woods with 1:36 remaining to give the Cowboys a 16-13 win.

A year later, it was not nearly as close as Oklahoma needed a late rally just to make the score respectable. Fields threw three touchdown passes to Woods to help the Cowboys take a 28-6 lead at halftime and they scored again on their first possession of the second half.

Fields completed 18 of 27 passes for a career-best 357 yards and was not intercepted. Woods caught six passes for 226 yards and Tatum Bell carried 22 times for 106 yards to help the Cowboys collect 506 yards.

Under second-year coach Les Miles, Oklahoma State closed the regular season with three straight wins and will have its best season since an 8-4 mark in 1997. Miles twice was doused with ice water after the game and Cowboys fans celebrated a win over their intrastate rivals by tearing down the goal posts.

Oklahoma lost control of its destiny in the national championship chase with a 30-26 loss to Texas A&M in which freshman quarterback Reggie McNeal had a big day. On Saturday, it was Fields who shredded the normally strong Sooner secondary.

The Cowboys drove 64 yards in seven plays for a touchdown on their first possession and took advantage of a lucky bounce. Seymore Shaw fumbled on the one-yard line and John Lewis recovered and went into the end zone.

Fields then threw the first of his touchdown strikes to Woods to make it 14-0 after one quarter.

The Sooners cut the lead to 14-6 on a one-yard run by Kejuan Woods on the first play of the second quarter. But Oklahoma State struck back on its next possession with a 60-yard pass from Fields to Woods.

The Oklahoma secondary continued to have no answer for Fields, who completed a 58-yard pass to Billy Bajema and followed two plays later with a 13-yard pass to Woods to make it 28-6 at halftime.

The lead grew to 35-6 early in the third quarter when Fields completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Johnson.

The Sooners finally showed some life later in the quarter when Nate Hybl threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Jones.

Trent Smith caught scoring passes of 13 and 40 yards from Hybl in the fourth quarter. Hybl completed 25 of 38 passes for 211 yards.

Luke Phillips kicked a 40-yard field goal for Oklahoma State in the fourth quarter to make it 38-21.
