, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Chris Tormey, who has brought slow but steady improvement in three seasons as football coach at Nevada, Wednesday was given a one-year contract extension through the 2004 season.

The Wolf Pack were 5-7 this season, including a 4-4 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. Nevada was 2-10 in Tormey's first season in 2000, and 3-8 in 2001.

"I want to make it clear that in no way are we accepting losing seasons and I do not expect to accept one again," said Athletic Director Chris Ault. "I fully expect to compete at the top tier of the WAC next year and the years beyond, but there is nobody else in the country that I want leading our program. He has got my support 100 percent."

Nevada lost three games by a total of 10 points and closed the year with a 44-7 loss to Boise State last Saturday.
