CHICAGO, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs named six coaches Tuesday, reuniting manager Dusty Baker with four former members of his old San Francisco Giants' staff.

Wendell Kim was named third base coach after serving as bench coach with the Montreal Expos last season. Kim became the first Korean-American to wear a major league uniform and coached with the Giants from 1989-96.

Sonny Jackson was named special assistant and Juan Lopez was named bullpen coach after both also served under Baker in San Francisco. Jackson spent the last four seasons as Giants third base coach and Lopez was the bullpen coach from 1999-02.

Gene Clines will be the first base coach after serving as hitting and outfield coach in San Francisco since 1997. He coached with the Cubs from 1979-81.

Former Cubs outfielder Gary Matthews was named hitting coach after holding that position with the Milwaukee Brewers last season. Matthews also served as minor league hitting coordinator for the Cubs from 1995-97.

Dick Pole, who began his coaching career in the minor leagues for the Cubs in 1983, was named bench coach. Pole, who pitched with Boston and Seattle, was Montreal's pithcing coach last season.

Larry Rothschild and Benny Cadahia return with the Cubs as pitching coach and bullpen catcher, respectively.

The Cubs named Baker manager on Nov. 15. In 2002, Baker capped 10 years with the Giants by guiding them to their first pennant since 1989. They lost to the Anaheim Angels in the seventh game of the World Series.

The Cubs have not been to the World Series since 1945 and have not won a Fall Classic since 1908. Chicago has made the playoffs just twice since 1985 and is 1-7 in postseason contests during that span.
