Ottawa 3, Montreal 2

OTTAWA, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Chris Phillips' first goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner Thursday night as Patrick Lalime made 28 saves and the Ottawa Senators extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Phillips took Martin Havlat's pass from the slot at the top of the right faceoff circle and fired a wrist shot that beat goaltender Jeff Hackett high to the glove side. The puck hit the crossbar before finding the net with 87 seconds left in the second period.

It was the first goal in 22 games for the former top overall draft pick.

A little more than five minutes earlier, Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson tied it on the power play. Marian Hossa cycled the puck from the right corner to the top of the faceoff circle before passing to Alfredsson at the left point. The Swedish winger let loose a slap shot that went between Hackett's stick and blocker.

Alfredson has two goals and six assists during a six-game points streak, while Hossa extended his streak to eight games.

Defenseman Andrei Markov notched a power-play goal in the second and Hackett made 34 saves, but Montreal had a three-game winning streak stopped.
