Marquette 73, Villanova 61

NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Dwayne Wade scored 17 points and forward Robert Jackson added 15 as 19th-ranked Marquette rolled to a 73-61 victory Friday night over Villanova in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

An athletic guard who has been tabbed Conference USA's preseason Player of the Year, Wade is the leader of the Golden Eagles, who went 26-7 last season and reached the NCAA Tournament.

Wade picked up where he left off last season, proving too much for the inexperienced Wildcats to handle at both ends of the court. The junior scored eight points in the first half, when the Golden Eagles raced to a 37-23 lead.

Jackson, a transfer from Mississippi State, had his way on the interior as the Golden Eagles led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

The Wildcats were led by freshman Allan Ray, a New York native who scored 16 points.
