SACRAMENTO, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The Memphis Grizzlies cut a 29-point third-quarter deficit to four Friday night but remained the NBA's only winless team as the Sacramento Kings regrouped in time for a 99-91 victory.
Memphis (0-6) looked defenseless in its first three games, allowing an average of 114.7 points per game and looked very much like last season's uninspired 23-59 squad.
Monday, the Grizzlies battled San Antonio into overtime before losing on Tim Duncan's buzzer shot. Wednesday, they pushed Portland before taking a 94-88 setback.
Rookie Drew Gooden led the charge with 23 points and eight rebounds as Memphis played energetic basketball in the second half. But the Grizzlies went scoreless from the field over the final 4:52 and fell to 1-14 all-time in Sacramento.
Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol, the 2002 Rookie of the Year, watched most of the second half from the bench. So did flashy point guard Jason Williams, a former King whose decision-making still leaves a lot to be desired.
