Southern Farm Bureau Classic postponed

MADISON, Miss., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The final round of the Southern Farm Bureau Classic was postponed Sunday because of rain.

With this being the final event on the PGA Tour this year, and because several players have their status on next year's circuit riding on the outcome, officials plan on taking as long as needed to get in the full 72 holes.

Play will resume at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Annadale Golf Club course. Only 12 groups had started the final round when action was halted.

The leader after 54 holes was rookie Luke Donald of England, who has finished no better than 13th in 41 tour starts. On Saturday, he shot a 5-under-par 67 to move to 15-under 201. Another rookie, Deane Pappas, was one shot back.

The 1999 individual NCAA champion while at Northwestern, Donald has matched a career high by putting together three rounds in the 60s. He is trying to become the 18th first-time winner this year, which would extend a tour record.

Donald was two strokes in front of second-round leader Brad Elder and three ahead of Chad Campbell.

Pappas and Elder need to win to finish in the top 125 on the money list and retain their playing privileges. They began the week 170th and 173rd, respectively.

Donald does not have to worry about his tour card, having begun the week 106th in earnings. After building a 54-hole lead for the first time in his brief career, he is more concerned with earning his first title -- which carries a two-year exemption.
