NY Jets 44, San Diego 13

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Chad Pennington passed for a touchdown and ran for a score in a dominating first half Sunday as the New York Jets smashed the San Diego Chargers, 44-13.

Entering the game tied with Green Bay for the NFL's best record and coming off their bye week, the Chargers were stunningly overwhelmed by the disappointing Jets.

Behind Pennington's two touchdowns and a 52-yard punt return by Santana Moss, the Jets (3-5) raced to a 31-7 lead at the half.

About the only thing that looked good all afternoon for the Chargers was their powdery blue throwback jerseys.

The Jets' most impressive performance of the season came after Coach Herman Edwards chastized the media earlier this week for questioning if his team had quit on the season.

Drew Brees passed for a touchdown and LaDainian Tomlinson ran for a score for the Chargers (6-2), who fell into a first-place tie in the AFC West with idle Denver.
