Cardinal catcher has surgery

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- St. Louis Cardinals catcher Mike Matheny underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Nonday.

Dr. George Paletta, the team physician who performed the procedure, said Matheny should be ready for spring training.

A nine-year veteran, Matheny hit .244 with three home runs and 35 RBI in 110 games this season as the Cards captured the National League Central Division title.
