Panthers Ward suspended one game

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The NHL on Monday suspended Florida Panthers defenseman Lance Ward one game for elbowing Tyler Wright of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

Ward was assessed a major penalty with 28 seconds left in Florida's 4-1 loss at Columbus. He will miss Monday night's game against the Atlanta Thrashers and be docked $2,291 for his indiscretion.

This is the third suspension of the young season. Eric Lindros of the New York Rangers and Chris Dingman of the Tampa Bay Lightning were suspended for stick infractions.
