El Aynaoui upset in first round

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Sixth seed Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco was upset Monday in the first round of the $1 million St. Petersburg Open.

The only seeded player in action, El Aynaoui was beaten, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 by hometown favorite Mikhail Youzhny.

In other matches, Nicolas Kiefer of Germany rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Harel Levy of Israel; Russian Michail Elgin got by Vladimir Voltchkov of Belarus, 6-4, 6-0; Dominik Hrbaty outlasted Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3; Guillermo Coria disposed of Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, 6-2, 6-3, and Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina fought his way to a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Stefan Koubek of Austria.

Fresh off his title at Tennis Masters Series in Madrid, American Andre Agassi is the top seed for this event, which has a $133,000 first prize.
