Memphis 123, Chicago 99

MEMPHIS, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Jason Williams outplayed his point guard namesake with 27 points and eight assists Saturday night as the Memphis Grizzlies coasted to a 123-99 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Bulls rookie Jay Williams, known as Jason during his days at Duke, collected 19 points and four assists.

Jason Williams scored 10 points early as the Grizzlies jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Memphis closed the first half with a 7-2 spurt to open a 61-48 lead.

The Grizzlies opened the third quarter by hitting eight of their first nine shots. Jason Williams capped the run with a three-pointer to widen the advantage to 72-53.

Memphis rookie guard Gordan Giricek left the game in the second quarter with a sprained left hip. Chicago veteran swingman Jalen Rose also was forced to depart in the second with a sore right knee.

Eddy Curry scored 27 points for the Bulls.
