NASHVILLE, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Eddie George rushed for a season-high 113 yards and one touchdown and caught a pass for another score Sunday as the Tennessee Titans snapped a four-game losing streak with a 23-14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tennessee (2-4) took the lead for good, 7-0, on an eight-yard pass from Steve McNair to George with 4:30 to play in the first quarter, but held a tenuous 16-14 lead early in the fourth quarter.

George, however, bulled over from the one-yard line on fourth down to give the Titans a 23-14 cushion with 8:07 to play, and safety Lance Schulters intercepted a pass by rookie quarterback David Garrard at the Tennessee five with 3:37 remaining.

"We were coming off the ball really well," said George, who gained just 26 yards on 10 carries against the Redskins last week. "The offensive line is starting to gel and the guys were aggressive at the point of attack."

"Even when there were no holes there, Eddie would bust into the hole and move the pile," McNair said.

McNair completed 26 of 36 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown to help the Titans snap the Jaguars' three-game winning streak.

Garrard, who took over in the first half for Mark Brunell after the starter sustained a concussion following a shot to the head from cornerback Samari Rolle, completed just completed of seven passes for 53 yards and two interceptions. He scored on runs of four and 41 yards for Jacksonville (3-2).

"Brunell got hit in the head and immediately had a headache, and the medical staff advised him that he would be out for the rest of the ballgame," Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin said.

Garrard's latter touchdown, which came following a challenge after he was initially ruled out of bounds at the one, got the Jaguars within 16-14 with 53 seconds to play in the third quarter.

Tennessee improved to 2-2 at home this season. The Titans are just 5-7 in Nashville over the last two seasons after going 15-1 in the first two years at The Coliseum.

"It's a sense of relief and joy," McNair said of snapping his team's four-game losing streak. "The effort was there. We did some good things today and we need to keep building on those."

"We're going to focus and continue to build off this win and carry it over through the bye week and into the following game," George said.

The Titans controlled the ball for 37:43 and limited Jaguars star running back Fred Taylor to just 59 yards on 19 carries.

"It's not our best effort," Coughlin said. "We did not play a real physical game today. The offense did not make enough plays to overcome the adversity we faced today."
