Titans lose Hall to knee surgery

NASHVILLE, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Rookie defensive end Carlos Hall of the Tennessee Titans has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and, according to Coach Jeff Fisher, is expected to be out 2-3 weeks.

The Titans had hoped Hall could practice and play through some torn cartilage in his knee, at least until defensive end Jevon Kearse returns from a broken foot. But Hall, who had replaced Kearse, a three-time Pro Bowler, in the starting lineup and has four sacks, won't miss as many games with a bye week coming up soon.

"This is not something that will typically set him back," Fisher said. "You go clean it out, get rid of the swelling, and make sure there is no chance for an infection. You strengthen the knee and get back and play."

The Titans now have three healthy defensive ends -- Kevin Carter, Juqua Thomas and Kevin Aldridge. They have used tackles Henry Ford and John Thornton at end in the past.

"We are going to have to move people around and keep them fresh," Fisher said. "(Meanwhile) It's something he's going to have to overcome. He'll come back. Fortunately, we have a bye in there. He won't miss too much time."

Fisher said the surgery went well and Hall could may be back on the field for the Oct. 27 game at Cincinnati.

In joining Kearse, Hall is the second defensive end to miss games to injury. Kearse, who is a three-time Pro Bowler, broke his left foot on the second play of the season opener against Philadelphia, and is not expected back until mid-November.
