New Orleans 95, Indiana 93

EVANSVILLE, Ind., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Jamal Mashburn scored 19 points Thursday night as the New Orleans Hornets won their first game since moving from Charlotte, earning a split of a two-game series against the Indiana Pacers, 95-93.

New Orleans suffered a 95-74 loss to the Pacers in Indianapolis in its preseason opener Wednesday night.

Indiana's Ron Mercer missed a tying jumper as time expired.

Newcomer Courtney Alexander scored 16 points and David Wesley finished with 15 for the Hornets. Baron Davis made just two of 13 shots for four points and five assists.

Jermaine O'Neal led Indiana with 19 points and Brad Miller scored 11 of his 18 in the second half. Pacers rookie Fred Jones, the 14th overall selection in the draft, did not score in seven minutes.
