OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Offseason acquisition Chris McAlpine scored with 10 seconds to play Thursday night, giving the Los Angeles Kings a 2-1 preseason victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.
McAlpine, a defenseman, gained control of the puck when goaltender Sean Burke could not handle defenseman Andreas Lilja's slap shot from the right faceoff circle.
Burke played the entire game and made 29 saves, while Los Angeles' Felix Potvin faced five shots through two periods and finished with 11 saves.
Potvin lost his shutout bid 78 seconds into the third period when former first-round draft pick Jeff Taffe beat him from the left circle on the power play.
Los Angeles rested Ziggy Palffy while offseason acquisition Tony Amonte, Daniel Briere, Shane Doan and Daymond Langkow were given the night off by Phoenix coach Bob Francis.
