M. Schumacher wins U.S. Grand Prix pole

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher won his third SAP United States Grand Prix pole position Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The German racer lapped the 2.606-mile road course in 1 minute, 10.790 seconds and will attempt to score his second victory in three years in this event Sunday.

Schumacher, who clinched his fifth F1 title five races ago, will start alongside Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello of Brazil.

Scotland's David Coulthard was third in a McLaren Mercedes, followed by Williams BMW duo Juan Montoya of Colombia and Ralf Schumacher.
