TORONTO, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The rebuilding Cleveland Cavaliers traded forward Lamond Murray to the Toronto Raptors Wednesday for reserve center Michael Stewart and a future first-round draft pick.
The Cavaliers also sent a future second-round pick to the Raptors with Murray, their leading scorer. Since the end of the season, the Cavs have traded 2001-02 starters Murray, Wesley Person and Andre Miller.
Murray averaged a career-high 16.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in 71 games last season, his eighth in the NBA and third with Cleveland. He shot 42.4 percent from 3-point range, good for 13th in the NBA.
The 6-7 Murray has averaged 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 584 career games. He should provide a scoring boost to the Raptors, whose bench was shallow after losing Keon Clark and Chris Childs to free agency.
"Lamond is a talented veteran who will solidify our rotation and improve our scoring," Raptors general manager Glen Grunwald said. "He has proven to be a consistent performer throughout his NBA career."
The 6-11 Stewart is a five-year veteran. He averaged career highs of 4.6 points and 6.6 rebounds as a rookie with Sacramento in 1997-98 and parlayed it into a six-year, $24 million contract with Toronto.
Stewart saw limited action in four seasons with the Raptors. He played just 11 games last season, averaging 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.
The Cavaliers also signed forward Matt Barnes and guard Smush Parker, a pair of rookies.
Barnes' rights were acquired in the trade that sent Person to Memphis for aging guard Nick Anderson. Parker left college after his sophomore season and went undrafted.
