Chicago 5, Dallas 3

DALLAS, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Kyle Calder scored two of his team's three power-play goals and newcomer Nathan Dempsey picked up a pair of assists as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Dallas Stars, 5-3, Tuesday night in a game that featured 17 minor penalties.

Calder's tallies came 10 1/2 minutes apart in the third period and extended Chicago's lead to 5-2. Steve Sullivan had the other power-play goal and Louie DeBrusk and Matt Henderson also scored for the Blackhawks, who were 3-for-7 with the man advantage.

Dallas was 2-for-10 on the power play, getting two goals from David Oliver and a goal and an assist from defenseman Sergei Zubov.

Before the game, Chicago learned that All-Star left wing Eric Daze will undergo back surgery Wednesday and miss at least six weeks.

Mike Modano, Jason Arnott, Bill Guerin and defenseman Philippe Boucher were among the regulars who did not play for the Stars.
