Lepage wins Busch pole

DOVER, Del., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Kevin Lepage cruised to the pole position in Friday's qualifying for the MBNA All-American Heroes 200.

Driving a Chevrolet, Lepage came around the one-mile oval at 155.757 miles per hour to take the top spot for Saturday's Busch series race.

"We came here to sit on the pole," Lepage said. "We did all qualifying runs (Friday) in practice and it paid off."

It was his second pole of the year, fourth of his career and second at Dover. His last pole was here in 1998.

"Dover has been good to me in the past, and it's been bad to me in the past," Lepage said. "Hopefully, we can have a good run. I just like Dover - I like going fast."

Joining Lepage on the front row was Tony Raines, who recorded a lap of 155.514 mph, also in a Chevrolet. Defending race-winner Jeff Green and rookie Brian Vickers fill the second row.

"The car has been good out of the trailer and the crew did an awesome job of preparing it," said Raines, who is looking for his first Busch victory. "It's hard to pass here, so starting up front is worth the effort. If we can survive the first few laps and get settled in there, who knows? We just might pull one off."

Jason Keller, the 2000 winner, drew the No. 5 spot.

Mike McLaughlin, Ron Hornaday, point leader Greg Biffle, Jimmy Spencer and Bobby Hamilton Jr. rounded out the top 10.

Spencer will be making his 200th career Busch Series start Saturday.
