Bovina earns semifinal berth

QUEBEC, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Seventh seed Elena Bovina moved closer to her second title of the year Friday with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Germany's Angelika Roesch in the quarterfinals of the Bell Challenge.

Bovina captured her first WTA Tour crown at Warsaw in May and is coming off an impressive run at the U.S. Open. The 19-year-old Russian ousted world No. 4 Jelena Dokic in the second round en route to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal, where she stretched Lindsay Davenport to three sets.
