CLEVELAND, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians placed outfielder Matt Lawton on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a cyst in his left shoulder and transferred three pitchers to the 60-day disabled list.
Lawton, acquired in the deal that sent second baseman Roberto Alomar to the New York Mets last December, will undergo surgery next week to have the cyst in the A/C joint of his left shoulder removed.
He is batting just .236 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI in 114 games. He was on the 15-day DL from July 12-27 with a strained left calf muscle.
The Indians also transferred righthanders Chad Paronto, Jason Phillips and Jake Westbrook from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Cleveland recalled outfielder-first baseman Ben Broussard, righthander Ryan Drese and infielder Earl Snyder from Class AAA Buffalo of the International League. The Indians purchased the contracts of lefthanders Cliff Lee, Dave Maurer and Brian Tallet and infielder Brandon Phillips from Buffalo.
Drese showed promise in May, when he was 3-1 with a 3.44 ERA in five starts, but struggled thereafter and was optioned to Buffalo in August. He is 9-9 with a 6.73 ERA in 24 starts with Cleveland.
