, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday acquired lefthander Mike Matthews from the St. Louis Cardinals to complete a trade for righthander Jamey Wright.
On Aug. 29, the Brewers sent Wright to the Cardinals for two players to be named. Milwaukee already had acquired minor league outfielder Chris Morris.
Matthews was activated from the 15-day disabled list after being acquired. He had been sidelined three weeks with a strained right hip flexor. With St. Louis, Matthews was 2-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 43 relief appearances.
During his major league career, Matthews is 5-5 with a 3.99 ERA in 108 games, all with the Cardinals.
Matthews will switch clubhouses Wednesday night at Miller Park, with the Brewers hosting St. Louis.
To make room for Matthews on the 40-man roster, the Brewers transferred righthander Chad Fox from the 15- to 60-day disabled list. He has been out since June with a strained rotator cuff.
