SAN DIEGO, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The San Diego Chargers announced Tuesday they have come to terms with defensive back Quentin Jammer, their first-round pick who held out and missed all of training camp, the preseason and the season opener.
The sides agreed in principle to the six-year deal Saturday and it was finalized Tuesday. The first three years of the deal reportedly will pay Jammer close to $13 million, a sticking point during the negotiations.
Jammer, the fifth overall selection in the draft, had indicated that he would not settle for less than $13 million over the first three years after Kansas City signed defensive tackle Ryan Sims, the sixth overall pick, to a six-year deal worth $13 million over the first three seasons.
Jammer was a unanimous All-American selection and All-Big 12 Conference first team choice last season at Texas. He started 38 games in his college career and set a school record with 57 passes defensed.
The Chargers opened the season with a 34-6 rout at Cincinnati and limited the Bengals to 203 total yards. Jammer was slated to be a starter before his lengthy holdout, although San Diego has veterans Ryan McNeil and Alex Molden as its starting cornerbacks.
