San Francisco 3, Arizona 1

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Rob Nen tossed a scoreless ninth inning and tied Rod Beck's franchise record with his 199th career save Sunday as the San Francisco Giants downed the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-1.

Nen's 36th save of the season sealed San Francisco's 11th win in 14 games and third straight against Arizona. After dropping the series opener to Curt Schilling on Thursday, the Giants held the Diamondbacks to four runs over the final three games.

On Sunday, Nen preserved a gem by Russ Ortiz (11-10), who allowed a run and seven hits in eight innings.

Nen came on to start the ninth and surrendered a two-out single to pinch-hitter Chris Donnels before retiring David Dellucci on a popout. Nen, who joined San Francisco in 1998, matched Beck's record, which was compiled from 1991-97.

After Arizona scored in the top of the first inning, San Francisco's Barry Bonds tied it with his 42nd homer of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. It was the 609th of his career.

Veteran catcher Benito Santiago manufactured a run later in the fourth and San Francisco built an insurance tally in the eighth.
