PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Vance Wilson homered and drove in a career-high four runs Sunday and Ty Wigginton added a home run and three RBI to lead the New York Mets to their sixth straight win, an 11-3 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies.

With catcher Mike Piazza sitting out with tendinitis in his left wrist, Wilson broke open the game in the third inning with a three-run blast to left field, putting the Mets ahead, 7-2.

Wilson, who sustained a contusion on his back when he was hit by a pitch Friday night, also had an RBI single in the fourth.

Playing in place of first baseman Mo Vaughn, who missed his second straight game with a left hand injury, Wigginton plated two runs in the first with a double before launching a solo homer in the sixth.

John Thomson (9-11) recorded his second victory for New York since being acquired from Colorado at the trade deadline, allowing three runs and six hits in five innings. The righthander walked three without a strikeout and improved to 3-1 lifetime at Veterans Stadium.
