DALLAS, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Rodrigo Faria scored twice and produced the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute Thursday night, leading the MetroStars into the lead in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1 victory over the Dallas Burn.
The MetroStars scored in the second minute and handed the Burn a rare home setback.
In the second minute, Nelson Akwari slipped the ball forward to midfielder Andy Williams in the center of the field. The Jamaican playmaker spotted rookie Brad Davis on the overlap and played the ball forward along the left flank.
Davis' cross into the box found an uncontested Clint Mathis, whose header cleanly beat goalkeeper Matt Jordan for the early lead.
The Burn knotted the game in the 14th minute when Ronnie O'Brien's long throw-in down the right side caught the MetroStars flatfooted. Defender Ryan Suarez got under the ball in the box, sliding to redirect it to the far post for a lurking Ronald Cerritos.
Cerritos, wide open at the far side of the net was able to tap the ball into the net for the equalizer.
The MetroStars retook the lead in the 62nd minute as Faria notched his tenth goal of the season. Jeff Moore picked out Faria on the far side and Faria's sliding shot beat defender Steve Morrow and eluded Jordan.
Faria added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute.
The MetroStars are a league best 7-5-0 on the road. The Burn lost its third straight game.
