San Diego 6; Atlanta 2

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Brett Tomko pitched a seven-hitter Tuesday night and Ron Gant homered twice and knocked in three runs, leading the San Diego Padres to a 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Tomko (7-8) scattered five singles and two doubles, walking two and striking out five on the way to his second complete game of the season and fourth of his career.

Gant, who spent his first seven MLB seasons with Atlanta, hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added a solo shot in the sixth off Damian Moss (7-5).

Moss went six innings and allowed six runs, three earned, and seven hits. The rookie lefthander walked two and struck out three.

The Braves, who have baseball's best overall record, fell to a mediocre 13-13 against teams in the National League West.
