CINCINNATI, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Aaron Boone hit two of his three homers in a nine-run first inning and Jason LaRue also homered Friday night as the Cincinnati Reds outslugged the San Diego Padres, 12-10.
Boone hit a pair of two-run homers in the first and a solo shot in the fourth, all off starter Brett Tomko (5-8), a former Red. Boone added an infield single in the eighth to complete his sixth career four-hit game.
On Sunday, Reds outfielder Russell Branyan victimized Padres pitching for three homers in Cincinnati's 15-10 win.
LaRue's two-run blast also came in the first inning as the Reds took a 9-1 advantage and held off San Diego thereafter.
Reliever John Reidling (1-1), the third of five Reds hurlers and the only one not to give up a run, struck out six in three perfect innings to post the win.
