Financial terms were not disclosed.

Despite missing 18 games due to shoulder and elbow injuries, the 24-year-old Phillips had the best offensive season of his five-year career with six goals, 16 assists and 29 penalty minutes in 63 games.

Selected first overall in the 1996 draft, Phillips had 21 goals and 56 assists in 307 NHL games -- all with Ottawa.

His signing came one day after Senators center Radek Bonk was awarded a two-year, $6.7 million contract by an independent arbitrator.
