LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Andy Ashby recorded his first win since June and Shawn Green drove in three runs with his 31st homer and a single as the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-0.
Ashby (8-9) yielded just five hits over 7 1/3 innings en route to his first victory since beating Boston on June 23. It was his first win over a National League team since defeating Arizona on June 1.
The Dodgers produced the game's first run in the fifth, when Adrian Beltre rapped a one-out single off Pirates starter Brian Meadows (0-2) and scored on Brian Jordan's double to left field.
Two innings later, Green deposited Meadows' first pitch over the center field wall to make it 2-0. He moved within two homers of Sammy Sosa for the National League lead.
Green capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-out single off reliever Joe Beimel that plated Cesar Izturis and Dave Roberts.
Eric Gagne got the final four outs for his 37th save in 39 chances, nailing down Los Angeles' second win in nine home games.
Meadows has allowed just four earned runs over 12 1/3 innings in two starts this season, but he has picked up losses in both outings. The Pirates have dropped seven of eight on the road.
